3 to 6 channel controller using PID for RC helicopter

Hi we are a group of engineering students trying to build a 3 - 6 channel controller for our thesis. As of now, we already have a 6 channel helicopter and an IMU. Since it is really hard to fly a 6 channel heli, we came up with this project. I just wanna ask if anyone here have any experience in building PID(Proportional Integral Differential) controllers for a UAV. I am attaching our presentation in power point so that you'll know what I'm talking about.

Thanks for the reply... Do you have any idea who these people are? :) I really wanna know how they were able to build their system i.e. what Hardware and Software they used.

Season Two of the Trust Time Trial (T3) Contest has now begun. The fourth round is an accuracy round for multicopters, which requires contestants to fly a cube. The deadline is April 14th.
