I was playing with a third compass today but I can't get a compass ID for the third nor offsets. Is the third compass capability currently actually supported or something reserved for the future?

Most of the common units use the same chip.
You are assuming that the compasses are from the same manufacturer.
Found a post by Andrew that the I2C bus can't have two compass with the same address. So no third compass. But it is a little confusing when MP has paramters for the third compass.
