1. Stabilize - (uses GPS)
2. Alt Hold -- (does not use GPS)
3. Loiter ------ (uses GPS)
4. Stabilize - (so you can safely switch the two position toggle switch without a mode change)
5. RTL -------- (uses GPS)
6. Auto ------- (uses GPS)
Permalink Reply by DanRZ on September 12, 2012 at 3:07am Hello, your XG8 already have six modes switchable. Just use them ... ( See attached file ).
Use a helicopter model, simple without any complex swashplate to avoid channel mix.
Activate the gyro within the right channel GEAR on device select menu.
Setup all the six values of gyro to match the 6 modes ...
If i really needed the 6 modes, that's the way i would do it.
I simulate 6 different values of gyro/governor gains for each flight mode
which are in reality, 6 flight modes for channel 6 APM board.
The value in the gyro menu is easy to setup using NORMAL value.
See second attached file ...
The six modes are : Norm, ST1 to 4 and "HOLD".
In reality you only will have 5 modes ... HOLD will fix throttle but can be used in a "auto mode" like RTL.
Example :
NORM : Stabilize ( 0% N )
ST-1 : Alt Hold ( 20% N )
ST-2 : Loiter ( 40% N )
ST-3 : Auto ( 60% N )
ST-4 : ... ( 80% N )
HOLD : RTL ( 100% N )
That should work ... maybe you will have to adjust some of the gain values i wrote ...
;)
Permalink Reply by DanRZ on September 12, 2012 at 3:10am Sorry, the only problem will be that you loose one channel. The "pitch" (AUX1) will not be used ...
And you will need a 7+ channels receiver.
Use channel 6 or 7 (?) from Rx (GEAR) to Channel 6 on APM, and channel 8 from Rx (AUX2) to Channel 7 on APM and it will work perfectly.
;)
PS: Pitch values, can be used to pilot a camera angle with throttle stick for example
using pitch curves but that's another "tweak" :)
Permalink Reply by DanRZ on September 14, 2012 at 2:09pm Hello i just tried my method on my DSX11 and it works perfectly.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L8dMJXhXVf8
and here is the GOVERNOR menu : http://i32.servimg.com/u/f32/11/72/78/09/imag0410.jpg
( after calibration the values are for each mode in order :
-100%, -52%, -20%, +14%, +46%, +100% )
You can see it's a heli model because i have the "Pitch curve" which can be used to position a servo for example.
The XG8 is very similar to the DSX11 using firmware 0002-0000 like mine ... ;)

Newbie question. How do I select the 6 modes using one switch?

Permalink Reply by DanRZ on September 12, 2012 at 7:33am Don't know really about XG8 but on my DSX11 i have a 3 way switch
and a second ON/OFF switch to activate the other 3 modes.
Should be identical on the XG8 ... quite similar to my DSX11.
Permalink Reply by Andreas Moe on September 12, 2012 at 1:05am Hi,
Did you ever get "How to" on JR XG8?
Permalink Reply by Hennis de Klerk on September 12, 2012 at 1:08am No. Just wish that the APM could be setup with 2 channels to switch between modes.
