I have started to add functions to MinimOsd code.
At first i did it for myself only. Added many functions i thought i need. Then opened this thread.
after a while, Pedro and later Miguel came, and things started to happen fast. :D
They have optimised the code and added even more things to it.
They have worked hard on CT, and it became a great tool!
Thank you Bough! :)
By now MinimOSD-Extra got a pretty advanced OSD.
Here it is in action:
- Changeable unit measurement (US, metric)
- Home alt
- Battery Percent
- Battery used mah
- Current Draw
- Time From Startup (cleared at takeoff to show exact flight time)
- OSD Menu
- Wind horizontal speed and direction, and also the average wind speed of the last few minutes.
- OSD on/off
- Switchable secound screen
- WP distance
- WP heading
- Crosstrack error
- Warning messages for Lost GPS fix, Stall, Overspeed, battery volt, battery Percent, RSSI
- Efficiency, glide distance & thermic notifier. 3 in one panel
- OSD Brightness
- HAM Call Sign
- After flight summary
- Trip distance
- Smoothened horizon
- Real heading
- Vertical speed
This functions can be turned on and off, and placed on different screens now, by the Config. tool.
Also RSSI, switching mode and channel and unit measurement, Stall speed warning, Overspeed warning, Battery warning volt, Battery percent warning, RSSI warning, can be set in new Config Tool.
We built in a new way of setting video standards. Now OSD does not guessing anymore :). You can set it fixed from CT. It is in "Video Mode" menu.
Here is how it looks: (This video is a bit outdated, sorry. I will make a new one soon.)

This project is the developing version of the official Arducam OSD located here: Link
The latest stable version is: 2.1
We are sharing it to see videos you make using it! :)
Maxim graphical OSD chip This would have done the job. Unfortunately, it is no longer made. I have a query in to Maxim for a replacement component.
The MinimOSD uses the Maxim 7456 character based OSD chip. Since it is character based, there is no access to display memory at the pixel level while there was with the max4455.
Additonally, note that going to a graphics capable OSD requires an order of magnitude increase in hardware; addressable display memory (16mb SDRAM for the max4455), 200ma current for the max4455 vs 20ma for the max7456, etc. Note that 200mA might seem like a lot of juice but it's trivial these days with a 5000mAh battery.
I suppose a person could buy an OSD with nice graphics (Apache, Eagle Tree, etc.) and reverse engineer it!
FYI: maxim has no replacement for the graphical OSD chip they discontinued, but there are others. Xilinx makes one.
Is it possible to display the channel 6 tuning value such as declination?
Hi, i just got the minimosd from hk and it looks like it doesnt come with the bootloader installed.
Is this usbasp ok to install the bootloader?
Thanks for the help
My recent flight with recent MinimOSD firmware "MinimOSD-Extra_Plane_Pre-release_2.4_r719.hex" with MaxiSwift on 2.4GHz video. Thanks for great work on MinimOSD! :)
The recorder somehow switched off, that it is why just around 4 minutes are recorded. Trying to find out why it is switching off. It is BEVRC 700. Probably different name for FPV Japan recorder. Otherwise 2.4 GHz is more friendly for flying for me. I only need to be careful when flying above electrical lines, the Open LRS UHF RC control glitches in that case.
