Adding GPS to the IRIS+ itself?

Hello,

I recently bought an IRIS+ not for an FPV experience or anything like that, but simply to use it as a complete ArduCopter hardware-wise with vision and GPS already included. However, after looking around online some more after ordering it, I now realize the IRIS+ doesn't have a GPS at all.

For my purposes, I need the UAV itself to have a working GPS unit no matter what. However, I'm not sure how to go about it at all. First of all, can I even install a GPS unit without ripping everything apart and having to make my own frame? Then, what GPS units would even be compatible with the IRIS+? After deciding what GPS unit to buy (and from where), I think I'll be confident enough to install it properly and create my own software to use it based off of the ArduCopter.

I'm a bit puzzled at the moment. Could you help point me in the right direction?

Thank you!

  • The Iris+ definitely comes with GPS. it needs it to perform all the functions it has straight out of the box. It also has a telemetry module built in, so you can communicate with it from your tablet/phone.

Generally speaking, I think the only thing you need to add is your receiver, if you didn't buy one with it.

    • Thank you! I guess I got worried over nothing. I did a quick search after looking up the IRIS+ some, got the idea in my head the IRIS+ didn't have a GPS, then did a really quick search on the IRIS. Once again, thanks!
