Hi All.

I am new to the automation of a helicopter, and would like to find some peoples to compare notes with.

Any persons in the DFW area?

Hi

I'm am in the far northeast fort worth/keller area. But I am very new to this too and looking for a group or something to get involved in.

Good to hear. I am in Carrollton, so not clear across the metroplex.

I'm in South Arlington.  I've flown helicopters long enough to be competent, but never the UAV stuff.  Also have it set up for FPV, but never had the nerve and want a "copilot" the first few timesl.

I have access to lots of arduino, parallax and lots of other electronics for a discount or for free. I don't have much experience with RC but if we get enough people together maybe we can put something together or work together to make something work.

I built a TRex 450 and flew about 6 years ago. I could hover, but never got much past that outside of simulators.

I enjoyed building the heli much more than flying it. I have been kicking myself that the machine has been sitting dormant for so long and automation is a good reason to get back in (systems automation is what I do professionally now, so it kind of works out).

I think I have all parts I need collected. I need to get through another project before rebuilding the heli, I expect in a month or two I will start tearing into it.

If people in or near Dallas wish to get together to compare notes and discuss, please let me know and I will try to organize something.

I don't have any experience but I would like to maybe get a group together to see what we could learn from each other.

Wow, I forgot about this thread - I will consider the meetup on the 18th.

I found a group of people also working on drones within the Dallas Maker Space - Some may already be familiar with this group. https://dallasmakerspace.org/blog/

People are welcome to drop by - Thursday evenings and Weekends are good - There is almost always someone around.

Benjamin,

There is no intent to eclipse what is going on at the makerspace. In fact, I hope and expect to find a lot of overlap. We have people all over the region flying RC and drones, and I keep being asked, after the Virginia/DC Drone groups to start something here in Texas, so we're getting started. I've joined the DPRG also, and many people at DPRG are also involved at the makerspace.

If anything, I hope to see people moving regularly between all three areas, as each seem to have overlapping and complementary purposes. With this new bit, I'm guessing we'll do fly-ins and open fly events, competitions, perhaps, and demonstrations, etc, things you cannot really do effectively at the makerspace. But I see all three groups as great places to share success stories with like-minded people around the region, and make them aware of how they can help, get involved, get help, and generally have a good time.... what do you think?

Now, my hope/expectation only goes so far... those who show up to these meetings will have the lions share of influence on what happens next... it's not "my thing," I'm simply bringing people together so we can chart a path forward....

-Mike

No worries.

Synergy is what it is about - And having a good time.

Looking forward to meeting you on the 18th.

And I'm looking forward to frequenting dallasmakerspace... I just signed up, but it will be a few weeks before I can go to a thursday meeting. I'm just wrapping up a series of meetings on Thursdays, and starting a new job (ironically, within a couple of blocks of the makerspace, I believe.)

Maybe you can show me around? It might not be on a Thursday for a few week...

And maybe you can ping some of my (future) fellow makers about the drone meeting?

Actually, I may be able to stop by tomorrow night. Are the Thursday meetings at 7PM? Maybe you'll be around?
