anyone know if the 3dr telem system in the shop works with the apm 1? Almost have the thing in the air, looking for a way to control it in the air and I don't see the xbee in the shop anymore, assuming the 3dr stuff is the new replacement for it.

Have been using 3DR radios with APM1 just fine!
It's a transparent serial modem, so it normally behaves just like a plain old serial cable. Any transparent serial RF modem like this will work in any normal serial application. (unless you need RTS/CTS or some other silly way of doing serial comms)
