This is my first time setting up the APM and Oilpan...

I have an Airtronics RDS8000 2.4 radio and 8 channel reciever connected to the APM IMU.

I have loaded AutoPilotMega Beta 1.0 code onto it.

When I go through the setup CLI, I can setup my 4 channels in the "radio" option.

When I go to the "modes" option, I only have "Pos 0:" which I can change the mode of, but I can't seem to toggle to the different positions... nothing happens on the CLI

I have the following channels connected

Reciever                    APM

Channel 1 <-----------> Channel 1

Channel 2 <-----------> Channel 2

Channel 3 <-----------> Channel 3

Channel 4 <-----------> Channel 4

Channel 5        /-----> Channel 5  (Note - Channel 6 on radio is my 3-way toggle)

Channel 6 <----/         Channel 6

Channel 7                 Channel 7

Channel 8                 Channel 8

Also,

I have the run the RC Test code to determine the PWM of my toggle switches:

They are approx:

 Pos 1: 1100

 Pos 2: 1500

 Pos 3: 1900

Any idea why in the Modes CLI, it will only show "Pos 0:"?

Additionally, I have the MediaTek-based GPS from DIYDrones, after a few mins, the blue LED on the GPS board stopped flashing and was solid blue (I believe that means it has a lock)

The IMU board has A and B lit, but nothing on C... is that normal? I thought all ABC were supposed to be lit?

Thanks for your help

Ok, so after spending multiple days on this, right after I post, I was able to figure some out.

I thought I had read in the manual to connect the flight mode channel to APM Channel IN5, but in reading through more posts, I had to connect to APM Channel IN7... Did this, and the mode selection works.

As for the GPS, I'm thinking it might have something to do with my reciever battery being to low, which is why it keeps resetting. (The LED on the GPS dims when I move a servo, and usually the APM reboots)
The default is to connect it to IN7 (channel 8), because this is the one that controls the hardware multiplexor to give you access to manual mode without relying on the software.

You can change this though if you really want to use a different channel input on the AP. Look at the configuration file reference....

Your second problem certainly sounds like a brownout. There were quite a few of the early boards that had the brownout reset voltage set too high. If you have one of those you need to make sure that your power supply (receiver battery or whatever) is solid.
Thanks Doug... that was it... connected to a main battery through the esc instead of the reciever battery and we are making progress...

Now I can switch flight modes, and see the MUX light go on/off :-)

My next hurtle is getting the GPS to actually show something to the APM. I have the Media-Tek GPS, and after a few seconds, the blue LED on the GPS board stays solid on... if I go to the CLI, and run the GPS test, all I get is "..............." never a valid Long/Lat.

Anyone have any ideas?

I also just noticed that in CLI test, if I run the 'imu" test, it says "Calibrating" for a while, then it spits out this and locks up:
test] imu
Calibrating.4D
Demo Servos!b14D
Demo Servos!b1
