I have updated my board using the MP 1.2.9 to AP 2.60. I did not get any erros but the MP is not sensing the MTK GPS.
Officialy the APM 1 is not supported and I am wondering what version of MP/AP combination I should use untill I am ready to get the new board.
Also, can i use the MP to load an older AP version(s)?

Permalink Reply by Rasmus on August 28, 2012 at 11:08pm I had the exact same problem. Turns out the GPS had really old firmware (1.3). Updated GPS firmware to 1.6 (howto: http://code.google.com/p/ardupilot/wiki/MediaTek ) and now everything works.
Thanks for the response. I am ordering the cables and will advise on the progress.
Permalink Reply by Rasmus on August 29, 2012 at 9:57pm Funnily, now things work only if APM is powered from my laptop through USB. If Ardupilot is on the plane, I have to wait for GPS lock (blue LED on GPS goes solid) and then the press reset on the shield to get GPS data. I am not sure if the GPS firmware update helped at all, because I did not try the reset button before the update. Could you try that before you update the GPS (although update would probably be a good idea anyways)?
When I get the time, I will try different older versions of APM to find out the cause of this annoyance.
I had a similar behavior with ver 2.4 where I needed to press the reset before MP was able to read the GPS. Then 2.5 came along and remedied that behavior and now with 2.6 the MP is not recognizing the GPS.
What version of the MP and AMP are you running?

Just verified that the GPS is at 1.6 so need to update the firmware so not sure why my 1280 setup with latest version of MP/AP the MP is not reading/sensing GPS.
I just loaded AP 2.5 and GPS is reading fine.

Note sure how this affects MP though but basic operations should work just fine. I assume you're talking about ArduPlane here.
