APM 2.x Accelerometer calibration

I hate to admit this but I have been doing the accelerometer calibration all wrong on my generic APM ArduCopter controllers!  When you put place it level, left, right, nose up, nose down, and on it's back I din't interpret back properly.  I put it back in an upright position.  I have have a few successful flights with this flawed configuration but more crashes than I want!

My question for the APM programmers is why does the software let a person make a mistake like this.  Can't it tell right side up from upside down by the parameters?  Every time i made this mistake the software happily accepted my settings.

If people are still developing APM software for the clone market perhaps they need to put this check in the software.  Or you could just assume that no one will ever make such a stupid mistake!
