Is it possible to connect the APM to an onboard computer running ROS. If so, How?I'd also like to know what recommended ground station to use ranging from HKcontrol, Qcontrol, or something else. I'm also a bit new to programming. Thanks for the help.

The answer is yes. How is DIY programming....
APMPlanner, HK-GCS, and QGroundControl will all work with APM. APMPlanner is probably the most compatible day to day.
