APM becomes non-responsive after arming
I'm stumped on getting my jDrones quad to its first flight. Radio calibration and ESC calibration all completed successfully (several times) and prop direction is right -- everything seems to work fine until I go to arm the ESCs. With the A light flashing, I arm the ESCs, the A & C lights are solid momentarily, then they flash, then they go out entirely and the APM will no longer communicate with the Mission Planner. The other lights stay on and behave normally.
In addition to recalibrating, I've tried powering up the APM via the USB cable before adding the lipo. Same result. Unplug the lip and it will boot up normally with the same sequence happening when I try to arm. Running 2.71. on an APM1.
Would greatly appreciate any suggestions!

Do you have a GPS hooked up? There is at least a 30 sec delay on startup if you don't have one.

I do have a GPS -- it is lit up but no signal acquired (blue flashing light) as I'm indoors.

One additional detail -- running off of LiPo power only, if I disconnect each ESC from the PDB and connect it directly to the throttle channel of the receiver, each motor works fine. When I disconnect the "front" motor (is its a + setup, so the motor opposite the RC pins on the APM) the APM loses power, however it stays powered when the other three motors are disconnected.
Is that normal?

Steve: Yes, only one of the ESC's built-in BEC (power regulators) is powering the whole system. In your case, that's the front one.
As for the original problem, I suggest you contact jDrones customer support. Sounds like a hardware problem in their APM board (I think they make their own).

Never mind, I'm an idiot. I guess when it says "No GPS" next to a port, it means no GPS....
Plugged the GPS into the correct port and we are good to go.

Glad to see you got to the bottom of it! (That's why we stopped using GPS-style connector for anything else, starting with APM 2.0. Too easy for people to plug things in wrong)

Good thing is that it does not break anything if you connect them on wrong port. It just not work as you also described. But good that it's sorted out now.
