are you sure the apm2 isnt browning out? try a diffrent usb port

Not entirely sure that's not the problem, but it seems to happen on both USB ports.

Why would a voltage drop/loss on the APM2 cause APM Planner to crash?  I often disconnect the USB cable before disconnecting in APM Planner and it doesn't seem to mind that.

typicaly the port vanishes from windows and the planner hangs because windows hasnt told the planner that happened

Mine hangs too. Windows 7 with APM2. Failes with USB cable or XBEE wireless mode. No the USB com port does not dissapear. I go into Terminal and see data streaming on the window. Hit Enter (or any key) and the windows freezes. The only way out is to use Task Manager to kill the process.

I have two APM2's one does it half the time, the other does not do it at all.

I think that the key issue to note here is that APM Planner only freezes when I press 'enter ' in the Terminal/CLI screen.  It definitely seems to happen with certain APM2's more than others.  I haven't tried it yet on a different computer, but based on Ward's reply, I get the impression it would.

I can't see how it would be the APM2 disconnecting only when I try to access CLI mode.  Furthemore, I can use a different terminal program without any problems (X-CTU has a terminal that seems to work well for this).

Is anyone else having this issue, or just a handful of us?

I have the same problem. When I enter any key, not only Enter, the Planner freezes (I'm using the latest 1.1.95 with mavlink 1.0). Running on Windows 7 professional.

Actually, it is not disconnecting the COM line, either.

Exact same thing started today for me..

Win 7 Ultimate - Fully updated

Xbee telemetry connection via USB port to 'copter

All is well until I go to terminal screen - Instead of getting the usual init/Arducopter text telling me to hit enter 3 times for a prompt, I get machine code scrolling rapidly. If I hit enter once, APM Planner locks up, only way to kill is to end process..

When I get the machine code scrolling, I tried to just click the dl logs button, but the log list screen scrolls rapid machine code and causes the laptop to beep..

I do believe this is a decent size bug.. I'll try to directly connect via USB cable to see if there is a difference for me..

Just tried 1.1.97 - Same exact problem.

The issue doesn't occur when directly connected via USB - only while connecting via XBee..

I'm concerned that if I'm on the ground and something is going wrong with how APM Planner is dealing with the CLI screen, it's also not going to deal with something else concerning the telemetry screen while in the air.

(When entering the CLI tab, it doesn't say anything in non-machine code other than that the COM port was opened. No longer get the "hit enter 3 times..." message while connected via XBee - Just forever scrolling of machine code..) Hitting enter, or any other key has no effect. Buttons for tests, setup, etc do nothing. Logs button opens up the log window, but then causes the command line in the log window to go nuts, and scroll and beep forever.

I would happily be a tester for any beta versions you might want to throw my way. I very much would like to get this resolved, so I can use the rest of the program without being nervous that there are other gremlins in the system..

what you see there is normal. you cannot get the cli over xbee.
