Just having a bit of trouble trying to get the APM2.0 to get a lock onto the GPS and was just wondering if anyone could lend some advise. I'm using an APM2.0 with GPS inbuilt and latest Ardupilot installed through MP.
It boots up normally with calibration sequence, the gps 3Dfix is flashing like expected. After a few mins while i'm observing the telemetry through MP, the 3Dfix goes solid.
In MP, it still says no lock, i use the console to test the gps and get G!G!G!G!.G!G!G!G! , Testing the rawgps returns nothing. I've left it for a long time to see if it will find any satellites but it never indicates that it gets a single satellite.
All other aspects test fine, airspeed component, magnometers, compass. Does anyone have any suggestions on what i could do or be looking for?
Thanks in advance.
Are you inside or outside?
Have you left the unit in clear view of the sky for at least 15 minutes??
Hi, yep, outside in clear sky for 15mins, not a single satellite observed through MP but it does gave a solid light for the 3Dfix.
How many sats are displayed on the left side of the map? What's the Hdop? Sometimes you can have a solid light with 4 sats and technically a 3d fix but it won't give you a lock or position until the hdop drops to normal range or you get more sats which would then also drop your hdop so.... check there first
Hi Ryan, comes up as Hdop: 0, Sats: 0 eveytime. should it show as a 3DFix if it has a count of 0?
I've tried redoing the soldering, re-applying the ardupilot software, checking the firmware where i can but the link info is not showing any satellites being detected despite the 3DFix being solid blue. At a complete loss on what to do next.
3DR have been awesome with their support. They have diagnosed the issue was with the GPS board and have repaired it. Took a bit due to time differences of countries but have to say a big thanks to the team for resolving this. I'm looking foward to running with the APM2.
So what was the problem?
Well solved my problem of the GPS not locking on. I was powering the APM2 and RX throught the OUTPUT port on the APM2 with a UBEC (as if powering it with a ESC), and GPS would not connect. So I decided to power the whole system through the RX, so I plugged the UBEC into the RX, 2 minutes later GPS connected, 3DFIX and LOCKED. The RX is the new JR DMSS 6 Channel RX with telemetry Satellite.
Problem was with the GPS shield of the APM2. It would lock but not provide the information to the output, hence MP would show no satellites and fail to lock. I don't know the exact technical fault in the board. Replacing the GPS shield has fixed the issue.
