Hi all
Still having problems with my APM2. Will not boot with SD card in place (even when you do a manual reset after power applied). I just updated the firmware to 2.5.4. Please look at video:
It is either the SD card itself or the card slot. When it does boot with the card pulled back 1 mm and I go to retrieve the logs it indicates no SD card found.
The board works great without the SD card and I have now logged 10 flights but am unable to review any logs.
Any ideas on what I can try?
Is my card DOA?
Just purchased from our Canadian distributor.

I can reproduce the LED sequences I see in the video by inserting a non-formatted data flash, powering up the APM2, and then pressing the reset button before the format completes.
Can you verify through the Mission Planner that the Data Flash is formatted?
Do you have the ability to download and compile the current version of the APM code from?

This version has the issue with the requirement to press the reset button after the first power cycle resolved.

I have given up on using the SD card till the next firmware update then if the problems persist I will send it back for replacement. Works great without the SD card, 75% of the time it boots without hitting the reset button.

Can you verify through the Mission Planner that the Data Flash is formatted?
Permalink Reply by Emile L. on May 4, 2012 at 8:40am Put in the SD card and tried to boot up, again the ESCs were beeping and I had to wait 6min for the thing to format and boot. Once the formatting finishes the beeping stops and I get red led activity and it boots. Hooked up MP and went into terminal mode. Card is present but no logs on it. I can run the erase command and it does not give me any errors.
This is the 3rd time I put in the SD card this week and it fails to boot and goes through 6min format.
Like I said I run it without the SD card I hook up the Xbee and gather info that way, for me this is OK but if the problem is not resolved at the next firmware I can assume there is a hardware issue and will return the unit.

Do you know how to bring up the terminal window on the Mission Planner?
If you open the Mission Planner to the flight data window, plug in your APM and switch over to the Terminal window, it will take several seconds for it to start.
If MAVLink tries to connect, select cancel and ok, and go to the terminal window
From there if you press ENTER 3 times, you will bring up the command line interface CLI
Type: test
Type: logging
you may get a message saying ERR: No dataflash inserted.
or you may get a message about the Format version and the expected format version of the dataflash.
Let me know which one you get.
Type: exit
Type: logs
Type: erase
Wait for the APM to format the flash and/or erase the log files.
Then try to power up your system again and let me know if this solves the problem.
Also, update your firmware to 2.5.5. You should be very happy with it.

Also my Sparkfun data logger on the same port says the same thing.
Permalink Reply by John Mulligan on June 7, 2012 at 12:29am I had this problem with APM2 dataflash, fail to boot or no data flash detected. wiggleing card could get it to work but not for long.
The Card slot is not making good contact with the card fingers. I put a small piece of electrical tape on the top of the flash card and eased it into the slot to give more pressure on the contacts and have not had any more problems
