HI all,

Sadly its been about a year, due to personal and professional reasons i have had to leave this project alone.

However, now that i am trying to restart my own projects again, i find that the IMU v2 is no longer avaliable.

Can anyone help with this?

Also when i stopped this project the Ardupilot was functioning 100% so wish to continue again and want some spares.

Can anyone explain what the ardupilot (NOT APM)is supposed to run with if the IMU is no longer available?

Its great to be back,

I hope you guys can make sence of this for me.

regards,

Mike.

Doc, Welcome back.

Unfortunately, Thermopiles is the official answer, however let me direct you to a recent post: here.

Also, if you notice there are Groups now setup for various projects including an ArduPilot (legacy) group you are welcome to join.  The more the...

The posts suggests we can use the PA2 system from Futaba.  Not sure if the entire PA2 is used or just the sensors...

Hey Dr. Mike,

Great to hear from you.  Sorry to say that I completely abandoned ArduPilot to work on ArduPilotMega.  Jason Short followed ArduPilot a bit longer, but has mostly been working on ArduCopterMega for a while, so no-one on the dev team has been supporting it.  I don't really have any suggestions on suitable AHRS hardware.

What is the reason you don't want to move up to APM?

Yeah, I do too.  I figured you would want a larger quantity, but if you can get by with a couple PM me too.

Mike, I've got some spare ArduIMU boards if you need them. I can send you them at cost.

We've retired all the first-generation ArduPilot gear, but will be releasing a new version of ArduIMU later this year.

It's good to have friends.... I've been trying to get someone to sell me one for a while! The new one going to support the original ArduPilot?
Brian, the new one will have a similar serial output, but I think it will be up the community to ensure that it works with the original ArduPilot. That's a discontinued product and the official dev teams are only working on current (and future) products.

That's the point of open source. There are nearly 18,000 members here, so if there is enough interest in keeping the original ArduPilot going with new hardware, I'm sure a team will form to do it.
Understood, I know I like the ol'guy because of it's size and all it does. I want to get going on the APM, just need to get a fully functioning platform w/more room. Regarding the ArduIMU it's just strange to think we'd need to redevelop a piece of hardware to support what the v2 already did/does. Just because no one is actively developing new stuff for it doesn't mean it's obsolete, just mature. How hard would it be to offer a kit similar to the original ArduPilot where the small stuff is loaded and anything that can be attached by the buyer can be done at home? Even something produced after X number have been pre-ordered or something? I know people will still buy them!

BTW - when I said It's good to have friends, I didn't mean that in a snide way, (re-reading kind of gives that impression) but in a genuine way.

APM does SO much more. Datalogging, 2-way telemetry, pressure sensor for altitude, 8ch in/out, camera control, airspeed sensor, etc, etc.  The two products are night and day. You really should give APM a try--you'll be blown away by how much more advanced it is.

We can't make the original ArduIMU anymore because the sensors have been discontinued by the manufacturer.

I have an APM 1280 but none of the rest of the setup. Guess I'll need to count my coin bucket and get that APM Full kit.
I have an old one you can use. PM me.
Jason

HI Guys,

Wow, what a welcome back!

Chris, PM now being compiled.....will continue this in private and a sincere Thanks!

Doug, Brian, Jason, great to hear from you again!

Its great to be back to be honest.....kept lookign at all the gear and the projects, but not being able to do anything with them.

Ardu Vs APM.. its not that I am not going with the APM as i do have 2 , but i got the AP1 working flawlessly and we did a lot of aerial photography and it was the basis of most things we did on this side.

There is a massive gulf in my knowledge of APM, at the point where the APM hit the ground, i purchased some of the first ones (which leads me onto anothe question, which i will ask in a mo) the development was very embryonic at that point, which sadly all hell broke lose my end, so had to stop. ergo, i suspect MANY changes have take place in this time.

So, in the meantime i intend to continue using, AP1,but....(now to my quick question), have there been any changes from teh early version of the APM shield to the later ones? ( i have early ones with the 1280 base boards (that chris kindly sent as the ones i purchased had very odd faults with the mux).

If not then i will get back in and try to catch up with you guys on the development.

Incidentley i put the AP1 back in the air today, flew 8 waypoints without fault (even if my memory has faded somewhat in setups)

So, thank you guys, Chris, yes please, Jason, also yes please (i haave about 10 main boards and only 2 IMU`s that i treat with kid gloves) as i also use them in a stabilized cam system which i will post as time allows.

Also Congrats to you all, the community has gone from strength to strength.

Again...its great to be back!

regards,

Mike.

Your early APM shield will work fine. You'll be impressed with how much the project has matured since you last used it. Download the Mission Planner and let it take it from there. Bye-bye code!
