arducopter

I was wondering if the arducopter auto pilot boar is compatible with the apc220 radio communication module and if it is can it control the quadcopter via computer or joystick that is atached to the computer.

Thank's for any help

Note, here is a link to the communication module I have.

I have the apc220 modules.  They work for telemetry, but at low update rates.  The 3Dr telemetry modules have more transmit power and a higher bandwith, so higher data troughput.

With the APC220 I've gotten ranges upto 2.4km.  With the 3DR telemetry modules I've gone upto 3.7km on stock antennas.

I have tried controlling a plane through the 3DR modules with a joystick, but there was too much lag and to jerky servo movements.  It can be done with practise I think.  With APC220 modules you won't have enough bandwith for both upstream commands and downstream telemetry.

What does work beautifully is putting the copter or plane in guided mode, and then clicking on the google map in the groundstation to make the copter/plane fly to there.  You can do this with the apc220 modules.

  • So could I use a four channel remote to control it and then if I want to mount other servo powered things on it I could use my other wireless module thought the arducopter board to control them.

I am not an expert on modules like this, but it appears similar to the Xbees and the 3DR telemetry sets.
These are used for telemetry not control.
The issue is latencey & lag.
R/C is still the safest to maintain control over your craft, even if its only a fail safe for autopilots.
