Hello Everyone,

About 3 months ago I built a Tricopter amd puchased the arducopter 2.6 board with the external compass. When I first began flying the tricopter, it worked great. The only problem at the time was that i could not get the loiter, return to launch, or auto pilot to work. Currently, when I fly the tricopter, it seems as if i have to fight it just so that it will stay leve. I have tried re-calibrating the ESC and external compass. When i let go of the sticks, it will not go back to level flight, but rather drifting backwards or forward and willl continue to pick up speed until I counter it will manual stick input. The secon problem i have been having is that the loiter, return to launch, and autopilot. I always wait for the module to have a solid blue light indicating a GPS lock, but everytime i try it, the tricopter just flies rndomly all over the place. I have to switch it over to stabalize mode before it crashes itself into the ground. When i select return to lauch it doesn't go to where it started, sometimes it goes in the complete opposite direction and practically comes crashing out of the sky. If anyone could please help me with these problem i would appreciate it. I have been tinkering with it for about 2 months and havent had any luck at all.

Thank you,

Kiefer Savoie

  • Thank you for the help, I will post pictures of my tricopter and a description too. How would I post a data flash log
  • If you are having problems in Stabilized mode, any other mode will just be worse --usually.

Assuming you are in Stabilized mode, the 'forwards-backward' issue implies the 'tail' motor rpm is changing.

Get the 'forwards-backwards' issue settled first before moving on to the second problem. There are many, many variables in the PIDs that depend on the other modes of operation. Again, if Stabilized has issues, proceed no further.

You should be able to take hands off your aircraft and just watch it hover -- when everything is correct.

  • You are likely to get most assistance if you post one of your dataflash log files from a typical flight. Also a description of your tricopter would be helpful too.
