Arducopter maximum altitude?

I'm wondering what the potential maximum altitude of an arducopter-esque quadrotor could potentially be?

For instance, if I wanted to run a weather balloon type test (ignoring FAA regulations for now, which would obviously be a consideration), what altitude could I reach in a straight up then down flight path?

Season Two of the Trust Time Trial (T3) Contest has now begun. The fourth round is an accuracy round for multicopters, which requires contestants to fly a cube. The deadline is April 14th.
