Is the RC equipment a must or can I control the quadrotor without it(sort of an autonomous quadrotor)?

as of right now it's a must.  althought it's getting closer to auto or computer controlled.

what do you mean by "as of right now"?

It will never get fully "auto". There has to be always human interaction on controlling it. Yes it can run navigation missions and many others things. And development team is looking other controlmethods than traditional RC radios too. Can we totally drop RC radio off in future, we shall see. It all depends on available devices, prices, laws and many other things. But yes there will be some type of joystick control from your ground stations.

can't I make a simple program to lift for 10 seconds and then land without any RC equipment?
