Ok got all the bits together, programmed the ardupilot, no shield, uploaded successfully version 2.2.2 or 2.2.3 On reset Status LED flash once, power LED ON. GPS EM406 plugged in, 406 LED off (glowing faintly) but no GPS Lock LED flash. The Status LED blinks few times per second.

Any ideas?

At long last, its working! yay!! Got GPS locked with shield, and the telemetry also working. Programmed the RTL point, dis some basic testing and all looks well.

The LEDs behave like they should.Groundstation

Sarel,

After looking at your photograph I noticed that you did not use the square berg pin headers to mate the Shield to the Ardupilot board. The round male header pins do not make good contact with the female socket pins on the Ardupilot board and that may be why you are having a problem with the 5 v line. This issue may be a liability for you in flight if the male pins lose contact with the female pins due to motor/propeller vibration.

In the future, I would recommend that you use the square male hearder pins as they make much better contact with the female header pins on the Ardupilot board.

Just a thought.

Hi,
the first time I powered up my ardupilot (w. shield, EM406, set in sirf mode, V2.2.3), the gps led light was on, the board blue led blink and then went solid. Gps lock was very fast. Tryed several times with success (gps led off, very fast lock, about 30").
I mounted then the ardupilot on a plane with a 40cm long gps cable connected on the 4pins 5v shield.
No more locks (gps status led off, blue led always blinking).
Tryed to reconnect it on the original gps socket.
I feeded the system with 5.955V (don't know why my Skorpion esc is stated at 5V, but deliver 5.955V). As suggested by Jordi, I already switched to an other esc that deliver 5,15V at bec.
Now the questions:
- is the cable lenght (40cm) the problem (cable continuity already checked an working, I have 5v on Vin, Tx and Rx end)?
- do I broke something by feeding the unit at 6V?
- wich other problem could be there?
Thanks for help.
Ric
Already done!
Don't know where but I read that EM406 had to be set at 38400. I reset at 57600 and now all is working properly.
