Auto issue in X Plane

In Xplane I notice that when flying in auto mode sometimes the autopilot kicks off into manual or FBW-A or some other mode and even spontaneously switches between them. Has anyone else experienced this and is this a symptom of the simulator rather than the actual autopilot?

Season Two of the Trust Time Trial (T3) Contest has now begun. The fourth round is an accuracy round for multicopters, which requires contestants to fly a cube. The deadline is April 14th.
