My quad flies just fine in Stabilize mode.  Very stable.

However, when I try auto mode.  It becomes very erratic and in the most recent test I didn't get back to stabilize before it came down hard. Only a broken prop :-)

I have the log file and I've been trying to understand what it is tell me.  IT has thousands of enties and I just don;t know how to read it.

I have searched and read the blog posts and even found the "APM Log visualizer" (which seems to have problems with APM1 files)  but nonetheless I have reviewed the file the best I can and I still cannot understand what is going wrong.  It looks to me like the GPS is just plain flakey because the coords are jumping all over the place faster than the quad could ever move.

If you look at the KMZ file it shows that the APM navigated to the first waypoint and then moves rapidly NE and then back SW.  This did not happen.

The actual flight was as follows:

  • Take off, OK.
  • Nav to WP 1.  OK.
  • Now it starts drifting NE.  (should be doing 2 loiter turns)
  • Suddenly it banks southward and goes full power.
  • I tried to get back to stabilize mode but as the log show it only got to ALT-HOLD (my fault wrong switch in my panic).
  • Then.  Bang.  Hard into the ground

I would really appreciate it if someone could have a look and help me interpret this log file and what I should be doing to fix it.

Thanks.
