Hi all,
I haven't posted much here but I was hoping to get some advice on a project I'm undertaking. I have a DJI Phantom 2 that I've found to have very poor accuracy when using the "Return to Home" feature. I have a gimbal and GoPro camera as well. To fix the poor accuracy, I want to modify the drone so that once it reaches the "Home" point in the air, it initiates a computer vision program that will use the video to control the landing. Instead of doing a "straight down" descent and being vulnerable to things like wind, the drone will look for its target (which I will make myself) on the ground and then use the computer vision program (which I will write myself) to precisely guide itself down to the target. I think this is a project that is realizable within a few months, what do you guys/girls think?
Also, I'm pretty lost as to what hardware I will need. I know the Phatom 2 isn't exactly the best for customizing, but it's what I have for now. If this would be much easier with a different drone, I'm open to getting a new one before I begin. A colleague has recommended that I look into the hardware made by a company called "Mile High Wings" but I haven't been able to find out if their products are compatible with the Phatom 2.
Any thoughts? Recommendations? Thanks!
