Bad motor or ESC (or something else)?

I've just started to encounter an issue with my quad, where motors 2 and 3 will continue to beep after the initial 3 short and 1 long beep, as if the radio wasn't calibrated.

If I spin or move them by hand while they are doing this, they will eventually stop beeping, and I will be able to arm the quad and fly it without problems. Sometimes it'll just be motor 3, sometimes it will just power on normally, but not often.

I've tried erasing the eeprom, and setting up fresh with 2.5.3 via git (I'm running u4eake's showleds code), and recalibrating the radio before and after setting up the failsafe. The values coming out of the radio in MP look to be normal.

I'm running a stock 3dr kit and using a frsky tx/rx with failsafe set up as per the wiki (and that also looks like its behaving as expected)

Has anyone come across this before?

  • Recalibrated the ESCs all at once and that solved it. Phew.
