Hello!
My name is André Marques i live in Portugal and i need some help!
I have a sort of project going on and i need what i think is an IMU shield and some sensors to acquire data from an aircraft.
I want to acquire in real time this
Position from GPS
Altitude form GPS
Aircraft atitude (Roll, yaw and pitch)
G load
Heading
Pressure inside and outside the aircraft if possible
Absolute altitude if possible
Temperature inside and outside the aircraft if possible
Humidity inside and outside the aircraft if possible
My goal is to connect the IMU Shield to an Laptop and read in real time all this parameters, i was browsing your blog and i encounter "APM Planner 1.0" and this is the kind of software i would like to have, i don't need any autopilot or any kind of control, my only goal is to visualize and record in real time the various parameters i mention above.
What sort of IMU Shield should i buy? Can i connect to an IMU Shield all the sensors i need? Can i use the APM Planner 1.0 to visualize in a friendly user way this parameters? Are there any other software the i can use?
Best Regards

Permalink Reply by Gareth Rens on January 18, 2012 at 3:26am Go with Ardupilot Mega Purple (APM2) (comes with GPS&Compass on board)
https://store.diydrones.com/APM_2_0_Kit_p/br-ardupilotmega-03.htm
(Im not 100% sure if you can or cannot use the ArduIMU+ V3, I know you can use the APM2.)
Additional stuff needed:
Airspeed kit: https://store.diydrones.com/Kit_MPXV7002DP_p/kt-mpxv7002dp-01.htm
Xbee telemetry kit: https://store.diydrones.com/Xbee_Telemetry_kit_p/kt-telemetry-xbee.htm
Absolute pressure & temperature sensor: https://store.diydrones.com/product_p/br-0011-01.htm
Humidity sensor: http://www.sparkfun.com/products/9890
That should get you started, if not finished ;)

Thanks for the answer!
The Xbee telemetry kit has an antenna for communication but i don't need that at this time, i just want to connect a USB cable to my laptop and see the different parameters. And what software should i use?

As far as software goes, I like APM Planner. HappyKillmores GCS also works.
Permalink Reply by André Marques on January 18, 2012 at 8:43am With Ardupilot Mega Purple (APM2) can i connect lets say 2 Airspeed sensors or 2 Humidity sensors?
Are there other IMU to chosse from?
And in terms of the software the APM Planner and HappyKilmores GCS only work with Ardupilot Mega?
Permalink Reply by Gareth Rens on January 18, 2012 at 9:25am There are additional 10 total inputs, so i would say yes :)
I think APM planner and HK GCS only work with Ardupilot mega. I might be wrong.
But for what you getting in terms of APM2. Its definitely the way to go for what you want :)

This shows all the inputs. You can change all the motor LEDS to inputs.
