Can RC gear and XBee use 2.4Ghz both?

I've read the APM manual
"If you have 2.4Ghz RC gear, you should use 900Mhz Xbee modules."
Is that mean one's frequency will interfere another when both in 2.4?

but I send an e-mail to my teacher
he says that 2.4Ghz
RC gear can hop frequency to avoid interfere
so I buy a 2.4Ghz RC gear is OK?

  • I have the same problem and here is what I googled

Yes, there is no frequency conflict. Last summer while testing Spectrum with 6200 RX the plane went out of TX range and went down about 2/3 mile from launch. We still got GPS track w/Delorme which made it real easy to find the plane on the ground. So XBee range is longer than that.

At first I though XBee was interfering w/RX because they were both 2.4ghz but tests w/o the XBee showed that was the limit for Spectrum in the area. I think trees cut the signal. We switched back to 72mhz for longer range.

For added safety you should turn on the Spectrum radio last. It will then scan the frequency bands, and should select bands other then the one used by the Xbee.

Ask your teacher "...hop to where?".

At the close distances we have within an airframe, the Xbee signal may overwhelm the R/C signal, even spread-spectrum- frequency-hopping.
Especially once off the ground heading away from the TX as the R/C signal gets weaker.

Not the time you want any interference.
  • Here is an answer I got from this fellow who tests rc gear and has a good site to explore.

    Hi,

    You'll have two problems.

    1. The camera may interfere with your FASST receiver and reduce your range somewhat. The degree to which the range is affected depends on several factors including the power of the video transmitter and how the antennas are positioned.

    2. The RC transmitter will produce lots of interference on your video signal. You'll get very bad lines continuously crossing the screen and that can be so bad as to make the video unwatchable.

The best solution is to use a higher-frequency video camera (5.6GHz) or to go back to a MHz frequency (35,36,40,72) for your RC system.

Unfortunately, unless you plan to spend a lot of money, 2.4GHz video and 2.4GHz RC are not generally good friends.

    I hope this info helps.
