Channel Outputs crossed: Taranis APM 2.5

Hey folks,  Just joined the forum - first time APM user.

I have a Quad that I am trying to set up with an APM 2.5 using a Taranis and X8R.  The sticks have been calibrated and tested in both the radio and Mission Planner.  Everything checked out ok. The channel outputs are set to AETR (as stated on the arducopter page).  Motors are spinning correct direction.

I did the first test today - fortunately with a friend to run the radio while I held the quad above my head instead of actual liftoff.  The FC was in stabilize mode, armed fine, and then the motors spun up normally.  But then it became obvious that the sticks appeared reversed.  Pitch was working backwards.

Shut it down and double checked all the wiring, checked the radio cal in the mission planner, and still everything looked good.  Next test the outputs seemed even more scrambled, and although I could not trace it in the moment, I'm pretty sure that more than one stick now appeared reversed.  Problem is: the radio and mission planner seem to be fine.

Am I missing something obvious to check?

Thanks in advance.
