Compassmot vis apm planner or mission planner

Did search didn't see a specific answer, please forgive if a repeated issue.

Question: what's the proper procedure for CompassMot when done via APM planner or mission planner? Please read through to see what i mean.

AC3.1.5 via terminal procedure:

Throttle at 0 > raise to 50-75% for 5secs > back to 0. > hit enter.

AC3.2 via APM planner OR mission planner

IF i Click start (Initial Setup >> Optional Hardware >> Compass/Motor Calib screen) > raise throttle to 50% for 5secs>drop to 0>click finish

The graph glitches and the compass heading floats all around the place.

HOWEVER, If I click start, raise throttle to 50% for 5secs>Remain at that throttle and click finish

The graph doesn't glitch and compass heading seems all good.

Is this the correct procedure? Does this mean for proper results I'll need to raise throttle to 100% (have to 100%? it's scary) and click finish WHILE at 100%?

Thanks in advance.

  • I would not think too much about the graphic presentation of the data, it's the math behind that is the important part.

As I remember the routine, there is no big difference in how you end (at 100% or quickly reduce to 0 first)

    - do a few tests, and see if different methods result in significantly different compass_mot_* parameters.
