Configuring a Charger

This is my first time dealing with everbody's favorite Hong Kong battery supplier so I didn't quite end up with what I thought I would.

I bought a 4S battery and a Turnigy ACCUCELL 6 to charge it.  Then I noticed you need a 12V supply so I bough a Turnigy TGY 20Pro DC Charger Supply which came with Euro-220 input chord and is marked AC 180-240V.   I look at the US vendors (not to many) of this brand and I see that folks are pairing it the ACCUCELL with something that looks like a laptop power supply.

1)  Did I completely screw-up on the supply?  Will it work on 120 like a laptop supply?  Is is suitable for driving the Accucell if I rig a cable?

2)  What is the preferred power supply.  So far I haven't seen one sold separately and I don't really want to repurchase the whole charging system (especially since I ended up paying 3-day shipping from HK by accident...least I think it was by accident)

This is all for a new quad-copter build.

  • Hi John,

I have the same charger and it works well but I'm thinking about going to a 4 port charger.

Yes there are many power supplies out there and you should select one that fits your needs. Looks like the power supply's voltage may be too high for America. We need more info on the power supply.

When you select a power supply and charger take into consideration the following.

    How many batteries?

    3S, 4S, etc?

    Battery type?

Charge rate? How fast can these batteries be charged

Power supply voltage/ current - watts.

Example my charger power supply maxs out a 2.5 amps. I'm looking at this power supply Alinco DM-330MV which is not a bad price.and I can charge four batteries at the same time.

I should be able to supply a 4 port charger  and charge 4 batteries at 5 amps.

    Hope that helps

    Randy
