Confusion about which Sonar modules are recommended for Altitude Hold

Hello,
In the AC2 wiki manual here:
http://code.google.com/p/arducopter/wiki/AC2_Sonar
it says
"Due to the narrow beam width, the recommended sonars for altitude hold are the Maxbotix LV-EZ0 and XL-Maxsonar EZ0"

However, the members of these families with the narrowest beam width are the EZ4 versions not EZ0.
The pictures in the same manual article show sonar devices that are labelled EZ4, so there is a conflict within the article itself.

Please can someone clear up the issue and confirm whether the EZ0, EZ1, EZ2, EZ3 or EZ4 version is best for altitude hold?

Does altitude hold work in the recent Beta 2.0.5? Does it behave the same as STABILIZE mode, but with altitude hold in addition?

Thanks very much, wonderful job guys.

As there are no comments on this yet, what Sonar module are You using successfully?

Thanks

Rob

EZ0 is default sonar what development team uses, EZ4 is good when you want to have really accurate alt hold on top of solid materials. Eg. You fly on staircases, outside on rocky areas and so on.

Only difference between ez0 and ez4 is the width of the beam. Ez4 is less sensitice for softmaterials. Ez0 is less sensitive for small items.

Take ez0 and it will rather good allrounder.

Software is on its beta stage and it improves daily. Lately we have been improving a lot alt hold and latest AC code is now somewhere at 2.0.10. I have flown weeks ago and already got rathwr good alt hold.

If you are not afraid of bugs you can try latest codes but if you are. Dont use. Just few days ago there were few nasty bugs that fired qua full speed to sky :)

That is now fixed. .

Thanks Jani for clarifying that; I'll either get an EZ0 as you recommend, or maybe compromise and get an EZ1 or EZ2.

Hi Jani,

What would you recommend for the open countryside around forests, fields and streams ? There are alot of trees near me !

EZ0 is always good as it has widest beam, trees/grass etc is really soft and gives "bad" signal back so wide beam is ok

The manual shows the MB1200 sonar, which is what i'm assuming Jani is suggesting. My question is, what is the difference between the MB1200 and the MB1000?

Yes both are ok and both have EZ0. Difference between 1200/1000 is that 1000 works till 3-4 meters and 1200 up to 7-8 meters.

1200 it is then.
