I posted this in another forum but I thought it might be more relevant here.

Any interest in the ArduCopter with an ArduPilotMega board with Wii nunchuch and Wii motion plus for IMU, a Ping sonar unit for hovering,
and all motors, props, frame, wires, for about 275 and with gps for 350 ?
Maybe even a less expensive unit for about $200.
I am trying to put a package together.

How about some input on how to package this ?

Frames:
Frame only
Frame with motors and mounts
Frame with motors and mounts ESC and wire harness

Electronics:
ArduPilotMega
ArduPilotMega and ArduIMU
ArduPilotMega and Wii + and NC IMU
GPS add on
Sonar add on

Individual units:
Frame
.......
Electronics
......

And price all the above very reasonably by buying in bulk.

Idea is good but I think if it fits on DIY Drones / ArduCopter ideology. As what I understand is that the whole ArduCopter is a project that will be supported by DIY Drones. DIY is all about opensource and they want to keep it opensource. At least last time when I checked Nintendo licenses they were not opensource :)

And due this issue DIY cannot support it officially. If they would, Nintendo could sue them of exploiting their precious hardware and it could make a lot problems for DIY people. To be DIY it needs to be done by DIY :)

But this does not mean that us regular users cannot do it, sure we can. In our case we just loose warranty when we open those Wii motes and others. And yes, i do have one Wii shield with WMP+ too

Uhm, I think this position is more than a bit questionable. If you buy Nintendo parts; they are yours to do with as you will - resell, drop from an apartment window, Hack to your hearts content. Limitations to your freedom to hack apply to a.) source software acquired under an agreement b.) The Patent Office.

This assumption that manufactures have a right to restrict the use of their product after sale is imaginary in the US. (your mileage may vary).

Nintendo doesn't need to Opensource their product any more than Atmel needs to open source their MCU masks in order for DYDrones to build an OpenSource solution around a given piece of proprietary hardware.
This is a really cool project and by far the most exciting one in my opinion (programmer as I am)

Various preconfigured options is a great way to get things started.

personally I hope to be able to reuse my motors and ESC's from my Tricopter to reduce some costs

Well there will be all included kits and also smaller kits available so you can use your own mots/esc's but from tri copter hmm... Unless you have 1 spare esc/motor it might be hard due you need to have minimum of 4 esc's/mots and they need to be same models or you might end up having a lot of problems.

If you have, sure you can use them :)
Of course I have a spare motor and ESC for my Tricopter - But I intend to keep minimum 1 spare for the quad as well so I'll have to order 1 anyway :)

Thx for asking
