daisy chain inputs to esc's

Hi everyone:

slowly designing a quadcopter with variable pitch propellers. The plan is to run all four motors at the same speed, and vary the thrust by changing the pitch of the propellers. My question is: since I want to run all four motors at the same speed all the time, would it be possible to drive all four ESC's with one PWM signal instead of connecting each ESC to its own PWM control line?

  • Hi Daniel,

Yes you can still control yaw, increase pitch on 2 motors opposite, decrease pitch on other 2 motors opposite on a quad.

Direction of yaw is determined same as on regular quad only by pitch instead of motor speed.

Some students in Northern California are trying to build a gas powered Quad copter that works this way, search through the DIYDrones Blogs you'll find them.

  • oh wait, you wouldn't be able to control yaw if you can't control the motor speeds, right?
