I probably will but I am trying to enlarge my knowledge data base for troubleshooting. I know you are more experienced with this than me and I was trying to get some friendly advice. I thought this was a forum for that type of info. Maybe I need to find another place?

Michael,

Sounds like you have a shorted ESC (motor controller) on one of the motors or one of the motors has developed a short and is drawing a large current at start-up. You should disconnect all of the ESCs from the battery bus and then try reconnecting the battery to see if the symptoms pesist. You might want to run an impedance check on the power inputs to all four ESCs. You might find one that has a dead short across it.

In general, we make a distinction between hardware and software. Hardware is developed and sold by various companies, and they support what they sell. Software is developed by this community, and is supported here.

Sometimes it's not clear whether a problem is hardware or software, and so that's an okay topic here. But in your case, that's clearly a hardware problem and the company you bought it from should help you

Chris,so, to get this straight, this Forum does not cover anything to do with hardware. Now I am confused. I see all kinds of threads relating to hardware. Are you just referring to this thread or the entire forum? Is there a forum that covers it all? Sorry for being new and asking so many questions. Just point me in the right direction if that is not too much to ask.

We deal a lot with hardware development and issues regarding software interface with hardware. But your problem is a simple one of hardware product support. The individual retailers have customer teams set up to deal with this. Why not use them for what they're there for?

This community is ideally focused on development and innovation, which is why we're all here. With 16,000 members my job is to keep the signal-to-noise ratio as high as possible, which is why I'm trying to push basic product support issues to the appropriate vendors. It's a process...

I was just looking for troubleshooting tips. I am trying to learn something so I can do things by myself without the need for support people but I understand your thoughts.

That's correct. Things have changed quite a bit in the 40 years since I graduated. I might just be a tad rusty. Maybe I haven't kept up as much as I should have, not a problem lol. Why reinvent the wheel and why not ask for advice. I'm not beyond that.  Just wanted to be sure of my thoughts before I started taking things apart.

I see that you presently live in FL. I am headed that way in about a year and a half when I plan to retire. I am looking at Ft. Lauderdale. How far are you from there?

Thomas, I am in West Palm Beach, about 50 miles north of there. I'm looking to retire myself at the end of 2013. Where are you located? It's hot and dry now, waiting on the rainy season. I think I found the problem after disconnecting the esc's. I use dean connectors and it appears that the spring part of the copter plus side somehow got bent up enough to get close enough to the neg side. It looks like I need to replace the connector and I should be good to go. As long as I learn something in the process, it is all good. No harm done. I was wearing my sunglasses outside and being almost 60 I can see how I missed it.
