Hi,

my name's Daniele and I am new here, as well in the UAV world. I have a very peculiar request but I thought many people here have into UAV for a quite long time and maybe have some knowledge or some ideas to help me out.

I have just started a PhD in Edinburgh and as part of my project I was supposed to get an helicopter spraying a plot with a nitrogen solution. Unfortunately some events made the helicopter unavailable and I was at the point to give up with the project, when someone put forward the idea of using a UAV which is currently owned by the University on smaller subplots.

All I know about this UAV is, it is a Cinestar8 octocpter with a potential payload of 3-4 kgs, it has only been used for video and pictures so far, but the University is keen to try new ways of deploying it.

For my project I should spray a relatively small area of canopy, some 25x25meters, and I have a tower slightly higher than the canopy itself where to start the UAV (and changing the batteries if one flight wasn't enough). Ideally I should deliver this nitrogen solution over the forest canopy in form of drizzle so to be sure that it is spread homogeneously on the small plot(s).

Any ideas or suggestions based on known applications (like pest control at a very small scale - not commercial, more like own garden)?

Any help at this point of my research is more than welcome!

Cheers,

Daniele

  • Great work. There are some of the people who handle the situation through spraying anti pest chemicals. However this kind of strategy does not offer long term results. In order to control pests hiring CT pest control services can be highly recommended. To know more visit http://www.yalepest.com/newtown-pest-exterminators online.

  • A very intriguing project. Where are you at with it currently?

  • The Pixhawk flight controller is a great solution for this application.  It can be programmed with grid / matrix type flight plans , flown entirely autonomously, and with the right multi-rotor, you would be able to carry a small amount (weight-wise) of product you wish to apply.
