Disabling the RF output?

Here's an unusual question: Is it possible to disable the radio?

I've got a device that's got a radio soldered on to it so it's not possible to unplug it.  But I'm not using the radio so I'd like to leave the antenna off but I don't want to risk damaging the amplifier.  So, is there an AT command that would allow me to do this?  It looks like you set TXPOWER to 0 but if you do this, is it then safe to disconnect the antenna?

    If you are speaking about the 3DR HM-TRP modules, just set TXPower to low, (1db)  

    it's not powerful enough, nor does it have high duty cycle to do any damage even at higher settings.
