Electric/Solar small UAV "Prototype"

Hi,

Starting this thread to follow the construction of 3.2 m wingspan full composite platform.

This is intended as a high performance (endurance) aircraft for aerial land and sea surveying that is going to use ArduPilot for guidance.

Have currently finished with the production of the plugs by CNC milling and construction of the molds is starting in the next few weeks.

  • Hi
How are you constructing the wings? Are you creating C/F vacuum bagging 2 halfs?
What frame do you use, and airfoils?

I'm also interested in building such a UAV, (3 m wing) like the Penguin B, but not at the cost UAV factory are asking for there body only ($7000, that is ridiculous, and if you look at their C/F (inside of body) it looks like a seagull has messed allover.

My project will also not be hobby, but semi-commercial (surveying etc), with different load boxes, for different equipment. (or even the client bring their own).

I will try and achieve the same flight characteristics as UAV Factory's penguin B. (but I'm already stucked trying to find what airfoil the used. Its quite thin (maybe NACA 2412) .

So I carried on seaching the internet of anyone making airfoil hollow section (extrude) for wing, but no-one.

The choice of frame and wings is a NO-GO, if manufacturing techniques and cost is not within reach.

Do you mind sharing your C/F wing mould technique (or is it just vacuum bag?)
