F550 APM hexacopter's motors not spining when armed

In Mission Planner when I attempt to arm the hexacopter it shows as armed but the motors do not start spinning and increasing the throttle has no effect. The ESC's seem to be powered as they beep every few seconds although I tried a ESC calibration, not sure if it worked as after I finished it motors did not start spinning. ESC's are plugged into the APM flight controller properly and all motors are connected to the ESC's. It has been working before but now it won't arm. Any help is much appreciated I've tried radio calibrations and recalibrated accelerometer and i've also done a compass calibration.

  • I have the same problem here. Mission Planner says Armed but motors won't spin. All the rest looks fine.

I'm using the  last version of Mission Planner which is not as full of functions as old versions that allowed me to arm from mission planner itself and also correct some problems.

BTW, did you solve this problem?

    Thank you for bringing this.

  • I just attempted a motor test unfortunately mission planner said "Command was denied by the autopilot" every time I attempted to test any of the motors. I am assuming I will need to replace my APM then, personally I'm not sure if it's even worth it in that case because I was planning on selling my F550 hexacopter and it's probably unlikely I will get much for it anyway.

I also however have another flight controller which initially came with my F550 kit I could try that one instead of the APM.

It's the (KK Multicopter Controller By Rolf R. Bakke 2010)

  • ok ! can you do a motor test on your APM ? All motors should spin up one after the other, if not your APM is the issue not sending the signal to ESC!

  • all motors now spin when connected directly to a Rx Channel. Unfortunately the hexacopter still does not arm, when attempting to arm after 5 seconds the motors/esc's beep like they usually do after arming however the motors do not spin after the musical beep. And afterwards what seems like random beeping starts which usually after arming successfully my motors and esc's don't make any beeps.

  • 5 of the 6 motors spin when connected directly to a Rx Channel. I'm not sure if one motor can't spin if it causes all others to refuse to be armed but I will now hopefully replace the broken motor (I have a spare) it has actually been damaged before which could have been the problem. Thanks for your help I think this may have solved the problem.

  • Connect your ESC Directly to Rx throttle Chanel , power up the ESC and motor if they do not spin when you raise throttle your ESC or motor on the throttle channel is bad repeat for each ESC !
  • yes I did redo a radio calibration 3 or 4 times I think in mission planner but ESC calibration I've also tried several times but I'm not sure if it's working because motors do not spin after completing it.

  • Have you reconfigured your transmitter , or changed your transmitter or receiver?
Re do the Set up your Tx.
  • Yes APM i mentioned that in my original post.

  • your using APM or Pixhawk ?
