But for a few failing MOSFETs, I would have eclipsed Pascal Chretien by a couple days.  Alas, it was not to be.  His is not really a new concept at all, but kudos to him nonetheless.  I knew someone would beat Sikorsky to the first manned electric VTOL aircraft flight.

The article talks about the rationale for a coaxial rotor configuration as saving 8% of the energy as opposed to having a tail-rotor, which is ironic considering it is very well known that coaxial designs are 20-40% less efficient than a single main rotor.  But I do understand why he went with convention.  It is slightly reminiscent of the Airscooter actually.
