I updated everything last night to what the updater now calls APM v2.0, which AFAIK is 2.11 from the downloads section.
I also updated the APM Planner software to 0.4.33
I redid my radio and modes setup, ran a pile of tests and everything checked out, including radio tests (channel 8), and modeswitch. It was pissing rain, so I didn't go outside to get a GPS lock.
However in the GCS when I switched from test mode and USB connection to flight mode and xbee connnection, the flight mode didn't change in the Mavlink GCS. Other telemetry (yaw, pitch roll, artificial horizon) worked fine.
It would also make sense that not having a GPS lock prevents moving out of manual flight mode, but this wasn't how previous versions behaved.

To answer your question about pre-gps lock settings - the behavior you see is correct in that it does not set itself to auto-pilot if there is no gps lock.. it loiters instead.

APM GCS however still indicates Mode: Manual regardless of flight mode selection.
I'm going to try and roll back from Planner 0.4.33 to 0.4.30 and see if that changes anything. If not then I will roll back from APM 2.11 to APM 2.1.
Permalink Reply by Don Brooks on May 19, 2011 at 3:55pm I tried this with 0.4.30 and the modes change on the GCS. I made no change to the APM code loaded in the board.
0.4.30 behaves as expected. 0.4.33 does not give a mode change in GCS and neither does 0.4.35 which I just updated to...
