Flying UAV across the border?

Hello all! I just had a question for people who understand air sovereignty laws. I tried doing lots of research on google but it only gives me info for flying commercial planes-not UAV's. I ask because I live in Ottay Messa which is right on the Mexican border....like Mexico is a few feet away from my backyard. I have a hobby drone I just got and was wondering if I would get into trouble if I flew it into Mexico and back into the US?

Would I be breaking any laws and if so, which ones. I keep thinking I am not because the drone is not a person, and does not have guns or drugs. Also is it true they can only track my drone 200 feet and over? Because I always heard the term "flying under the radar" which is supposedly under 200 feet.

If anyone can shed some light on this, that would be great

Interesting question - my simple view would be that if you are operating within the rules for hobby use in both countries (altitude, weight, non-commercial etc) you would be ok under airspace rules.

Weather there are other immigration/border rules that prohibit moving objects over the border at a non crossing point might be different though.

    • I think Ben is right, flying over a countries boarder without letting the proper authorities know will most likely cause a stir.

With the amount of illegal activities going on your UAV could be viewed as more than just a person flying overhead for hobby purposes.

Despite the opportunity you have to potentially get some great footage I would error on the side of caution with this one and say that going up and over is not a good idea.

The bad outweighs the good in this particular instance.
