Hi together,

i want to use a D4R-II together with APM2, PPM and RSSI are no problem. What i want to connect as well is

the serial port of RX and APM2 to send compressed GPS information over the FrSky data downlink to my antenna tracker. in principle i have that working, currently with an arduino pro mini evaluating an attached GPS sensor, compressing the GPS data and sending it over the downlink. So tweaking arducopters software to do that as well will be no big deal. I use NewSoftSerial with the arduino as it provides the inverted TTL signal, that is expected from the FrSky RX.

Question now is:

1) Can FastSerial in Arducopter 2.6 somehow be used for generating an INVERTED TTL signal?

2) Which Pins/Port should i use on the APM2 to connect the FrSky RX serial port?

Thanks!!!

Christian

If you guys are looking for hardware inverter check the frsky ful-1 at http://www.frsky-rc.com/ShowProducts.asp?id=49 . This thing will do the invert for you. I have it in use to connect my frsky module with bluetooth towards android.

Is that what that does?!  I have one of those!  I needed it to update the firmware on one of my Rx, and now have no use for it!

This wiki has some info (like the pinout) on how I used this thing to convert to bluetooth ttl module: http://projects.onomato.biz/projects/android-dash/wiki/BlueTooth

This is how I am getting CPPM. Make sure you bind the receiver the normal way first then connect the jumpers and cables.

Yup, same as me.  It's important to note that the PPM actually comes out of Ch2 on the D4R, not Ch1.

Yeah I followed your directions on how to setup couple of weeks ago. I got a extended antenna that I could put a direct antenna on a rp-sma and range tested around 3 miles so far havn't tried past that. It good little receivers.

Zachary, thanks for the pictures! One question, do you have the ppm/ch 5 bridge soldered? I spent hours yesterday trying to get ppm to work and it's driving me nuts. I think I had the jumper on my D4R when I was binding it so I will try binding it again. I haven't flown my quadcopter in 6 weeks waiting to have a fail safe and now I can't get any signal in ppm.

No soldering on the bridge. Just the connection you. Make sure you bind in ppm mode without the jumpers on the receiver. Then once you bind you can put the jumper like my picture shows it and you be good to go. I make a video if I have time today.

I've got it set up the same so I will try binding it again when I get home. Thanks again!

Well, the D4R-II seems to have CPPM out on Ch1, at least i find that with my CPPM test arduino. Unfortunately i connect everything the way you do.

Do you see movement in the Missionplanner10?

Cristian, mine is a D4R (NO II) but I can't see it do anything in the mission planner.

Christian, did they move it to Ch1?  Darn, I'll have to resolder this one.
