Getting started with ready to fly 3DR Hexa. What additional gear do I need?

Ok, I bought a "ready to fly" kit but it seems I need to gear to fly, go figure.

I have a 7C Futaba Heli radio. Is that enough to get basic flight?

Are there any reasons to get more channels?

Clearly, I need batteries, what sort of batteries are recommended for a 3DR Hexa?

Thanks for helping with these basic questions, the wiki seems to not touch on this subject.

Season Two of the Trust Time Trial (T3) Contest has now begun. The fourth round is an accuracy round for multicopters, which requires contestants to fly a cube. The deadline is April 14th.
