Gimble Integration help

I am trying to wrap my head around this whole gimble thing. I would like to control a gimble through mission planner and not through a futaba radio. Do I connect the servos to the output side? Then how do I go about controlling it? I was trying to get them to move with the joystick, but I am not having any luck with any sort of servo movement.

  • Okay I figured out my main problem.  I needed to supply power to the output side to control the servos... Still having one problem with channel 8 out trying to control "Pan" it is very twitchy. If I move the joystick the servo will follow some of my command then move right back to where it was. Any ideas on where I might be goofing?

I am running all this with my Futaba 8FG controller with a 14 channel receiver. I have channel 7 running to input side 7, 8 running to input side 8 and channel 9 running plugged into channel 6 on the input side. I have pretty much ran out of channels on the input and outputs.

  • The Mission Planner has a section in the configuration mode for setting up a gimbal. The servos connect to the APM on the output side and will be stabilized (counter motion of the APM). The gimbal can still be controlled with sticks if configured to do so in the Mission Planner (takes up an input on the APM per axis). I have the right slider on my Aurora 9 transmitter hooked up to the gimbal pitch so I can change the pitch from the radio, I think on channel 6 (would have to check to be for sure).
