Hello all,
Does any one know why do ublox lea6h gps evaluation boards ($100) cost less than the module ($120) itself?
Here's the link for eval board that i bought at $99.99:

Here's the gps module chipset i bought at $120 from the official suppliers listed on ublox website:

For essentially the same specs I wonder why people spend 4-5x as much? Last time I compared them the only real difference I saw was the antenna options, and I think those can be had in some of the MT modules.

Permalink Reply by Jake Stew on June 25, 2012 at 11:48pm Last I checked they had 3m and 10hz, same as the media tek. I'm sure there's other factors also, just curious because a lot of people seem to like them a lot, but I never understood what the differences were.

Are you talking abt email sent to me? Cause I didn't receive any frm u...
Permalink Reply by Dan Manczak on September 20, 2012 at 8:00am Hi Anant,
I sent it to your email at carnagie :) But dont know if u are still associated with uni... hmmm...
Anyway I've had problems getting the GPS unit from csgshops to work. I have installed ublox usb driver and eval software on both vista and windows 7 platform... but no success.
have u had any issues with csgshops unit?
Thanx

Yup i can still receive my cmu mails...sorry didn't check'em before replying to u...
CSGshops unit shd work rght out of the box...i tested it wth their software on my Win7 machine....here's a few check tht might help u...
a) Verify the module is powered (red leds glow)...its a dumb check bt small checks save big troubles later...:)
b) The module will ONLY with an external antenna connected....by this, i mean u can still connect to the software without the antenna, but its gonna give u the readings only when u connect the external antenna....this is because lea-6h doesn't have an embedded antenna...
c) The chipset might not give readings even with an antenna, if ur trying it inside the buildings...try it outdoors...
hope it helps...

Thanx very much for your help.
Unfortunately, i think i might have recieved a malfunctioning unit. I've get two blue lights on the unit, so power shud b ok. However, no red lights.
I'm using the driver that installs with "ublox_A4_U5_USB_drv3264win7_install_UI.exe" (u-blox firmware). It still says "USB Device not recognized...One of the USB drivers..blah blah blah... has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it..blah blah blah... " Did u have to install any USB driver?
The links for downloading driver and supersense on their website are broken :(
And on top of that i'm dont seem to be getting any UART/bluetooth signal.
hmmm....
Cheers,
Dan
Permalink Reply by Anant Rao on September 20, 2012 at 11:22am Sorry abt the red lights...its been a few months n i don't remember the color...:)
yup...i did install the same usb drivers as u did...win7 machine shd detect the device thn...did u try troubleshooting frm the device manager wizard (like update the drivers option or smthng like tht)...? smtimes using a different usb port works too...
though its possible tht the specific module might be faulty, i'd probably try n figure out if thr's a driver recognition issue on ur machine...
Permalink Reply by Dan Manczak on September 20, 2012 at 11:47am Its working on Vistas now dude!!! :)...
Changed the usb port.
Awesum...red diode is blinking! Sweet!!!...
Did u ever manage to get the UART going?
Thanx again!!!
Permalink Reply by Anant Rao on September 20, 2012 at 1:04pm Sorry, I haven't tried the uart...honestly, i was looking for an i2c breakout board for lea-6h...
unfortunately, no schematics file is posted on the csgshops website...i do believe though tht thr's a UART breakout on their board: pin no.s 3,4,5,6 on the PCB (beside the usb port) somehow correspond to the Tx1,Tx2,Rx1,Rx2 (not in the order) of the RS232 transceiver ADM3202A on the pcb...(2's NC, 1 n 7 i believe are power pin n gnd)...
thts abt all i found (or even tried to) on the board....if u get the pin connection correct, i believe diy drones has some examples to communicate to lea-6h via UART...
