Hi,

I have the following configuration:
- Ardupilot with 2.5 code
- Shield V1 (Red)
- UBlox GPS (Also tried EM 406)
- Ardu XYZ Thermopiles
- Ardu FDTI cable (Windows XP on the client)

The GPS (Both UBlox and EM406) works fine when directly connected to the ArduPilot without the Shield. Tried initially with GPS Raw Tester followed by the UBlox/EM406 Tester and then with the 2.5 code loaded.

The shield itself is working fine and I am able to read the Thermopile sensor values correctly. The data stream from the shield is as expected. Also, we have loaded code with the Shield connected and it works fine.

However, when the GPS is connected to the Shield, the GPS does not acquire a signal lock (with and without the FDTI connected). The communication also seems to be a problem and each time the GPS sends a signal, the data stream gets garbled as in the attached image.

I have checked the soldering and other obvious problems with the Shield and things seem fine. I do not have a Shield V2 at this point to check.

Appreciate any suggestions/help.

Thanks, Ravi Rangan

That doesn't look good. Do you get garbled data even when the GPS is not attached to the shield? My guess is you have a ground pin on the shield that isn't soldered completely and it is causing noise.

The data is garbled only when the GPS is connected. Also, I have two shield boards which I have tried and both have the same problem with both UBlox and EM406. I will check on the ground soldering carefully.
