I am working on a ground control station software, but im having trouble finding some good maps. Thee best thing I have found so far is openstreetmap(http://www.openstreetmap.org/), but I would like a geographical land view version. What do people usually use? The best I have found is the Blue marble, but that has only 500m resolution.

Help is appreciaetd!

Can you suggest a IMU? All the ones I have seen are geared toward planes rather then helis.
Ravi,
Start with ones for plane now or wait for few weeks/months for new versions of AP here. Why not "planes'' ?
if only for testing you software using simple cheap IMU on the ground then check Ardu IMU v2(flat)
I still plan on doing a helicopter, so I may as well buy it in one go.
I would also like to make the whole thing myself, kalman filter and all, as I have some ideas I want to try out.

You say wait a few weeks/months, is there one planned for release?
yes , one that is/may be good for heli. In case you don't know , go back to all the posts regarding heli , gyros , vibrations and few dreamy eyes that want their heli to go places like planes are doing now( in budget).
"I would also like to make the whole thing myself, kalman filter and all, as I have some ideas I want to try out." Good Luck :-))
Haha, I know it will be hard. But I am in washington DC for the whole summer for a internship at the naval research lab, so I will have plenty of time. I also know a guy that specializes in kalman filters, so thats a huge help.

For now, I am going to hold on buying the heli, and work on the software, but still develop a IMU that will work for one. I plan on testing on flight gear first, then a quadrotor. What do you think of these for the IMU?:
