    Gyros only gives rotational (angular) information for you. Accelerometer then gives X/Y/Z angle information for you eg. which way your device is facing. You can make your device flying by using one those but to make it good you need to have both of them. Most important is Accelerometer. Because without Acc you do not have any ideas on which way your device is facing.

    Sure you can use only gyros but then your software has to keep accurate record constantly on which way your device is rotating and if you loose that orientation because of XXX. It cannot recover.
