Has anyone seen or used the Gumstix Aerocore?

I think this is a really new product by Gumstix because I can't find any mention of it in the forums, but it claims to be PX4 and NuttX compatible. It's a DuoVero expansion board. Here is the link to it:

Would it be possible to run ArduCopter/ArduPlane/ArduRover directly on this expansion board?

  • Hi Chris,

I know this is an old thread, but I thought I'd follow up anyway. Gumstix has just announced the AeroCore 2 expansion board (for both DuoVero and Overo) and we have successfully tested ArduPilot, Mission Planner, and APM Planner 2.0 on it. Thought it might be of interest.

      Hi Andrew

Do you have any plans to make a pull request with a HAL for your board?

  • Likely. Looks like a revised PX4/PixHawk board. Exactly the same H/W and S/W so what works and doesn't will be inline with the ETH mainline... even down to the DFxx connectors :(

Makes sense as ETH has already invested in Nuttx and has a fully running PX4 stack, is a research platform and opensource. Fits Gumstix's market and a good move by them to enter the market quickly vs. creating a clean design/lessons learned board (which I'd have another opinion about that).

I do like the COMs integration. Very nice.

  • Hi Chris,

I work at Gumstix and the AeroCore is so new that it won't even be officially announced until tomorrow morning!

The AeroCore is a DuoVero expansion board that can also be used standalone; the onboard microcontroller is the same as the one on the PX4FMU (STM32F4 series Cortex-M4), but some of the sensors are different (full tech. specs here).

I'm not very familiar (read: not at all!) with ArduPilot/APM and AP-HAL software, but I'm sure it can be made to work on the AeroCore with a little bit of effort. We're hoping the AeroCore will be a good choice for developers who want to do some interesting, high-level stuff in the air.

Thanks! Let us know if you've got more questions!
