Help in understanding jamming, geofencing

Hi folks,

I wondered if there was anyone on here that might be able to help me out in understanding how popular platforms like the DJI Phantom respond to drone defences like spoofing, jamming and geofencing. I've been reading a bit about the growing number of 'defences' and was interested in understanding more about the technicalities about how drone communication and command systems work, and how and why they're affected by these various types of intervention. If there's anyone on here who could help me out, please let me know.

Thanks,

Anna

  • Hi James,

Thanks for your response - this is really helpful, and I appreciate you taking the time to reply.

I'm particularly interested in the effects on a popular platform like the Parrot A.R 2.0, or more expensive DJI Phantom 4.  Do you know about the 'effect of gnss' for these platforms?

Thanks for the tops re: control/ datalink - I'll look for the examples online as you suggest.

I'm particularly interested in whether such platforms (as above) can evade geofencing - as more companies are emerging claiming they can erect such measures.

Thanks for your comments about the ground element - this is, as you say, an interesting point.

  • Hello,

There are also other issues the wifi can be hacked the telemetry radio's as well .

    spoofing :

all drones are susceptible to GPS spoofing! tricking the drone in to using your GPS signals instead of the sat orbiting the earth

    jamming :

Jamming is simple broadcasting on the same frequency as the drone but louder in amplitude so the receiver only hears you

geofencing : is implemented in FC as a feature to limit the drones operationl air space

    • Hi OG,

Thanks for your reply.  If anyone knows of any additional sources where I can read up more on this, that would also be great!
